ABSTRACT
Human resource is considered to be a treasure rather than a mere resource of progressive business organization especially a hospital. It is the personnel who shape the destiny of the organization and not the structure, system and process that are formulated in the organization. Ninety employees from a selected 1000 bedded tertiary care teaching hospital were chosen using stratified proportionate random sample technique. There are a variety of personnel engaged in healthcare delivery, they are classified into three categories of : Clinical - 34, Administrative – 20 and Supportive staff
– 36. This study on Human Resource Development environment pertains to teamwork, training, counselling, and superior-subordinate relationship (SSR). Teamwork, training and SSR have a moderate existence among the three categories of staff. However, availability of counseling facilities is poor for clinical staff, but moderate among administrative and supportive staff. The overall HRD environment in the hospital was found to be reasonably good and development oriented.
