Article-1: Fire Safety: Vertical Evacuation by Lifts in Healthcare Buildings

Abstract
As hospitals are going  vertical due to scarcity of land and real estate costs, there is this  inevitable risk of exposing it to multiple hazards like fire hazards, earthquakes ,inclement weather conditions. As the hospital goes vertical, the scope for horizontal evacuation of the patients in case of fire is limited and it becomes inevitable to move the patients to the next floor or to the common assembly area. Now-a-days the modern high rise buildings come with sufficient fire exits routes   at each floor, however the challenges  faced  in hospital setting is unique in spite of having fire exits as moving the non-ambulatory patients to the next floor we have to depend on a lift which is capable of withstanding fire .Considering the above challenges our hospital has modified a regular lift into   evacuation lift successfully as per norms
