Article-9: Healthcare manpower orchestrating to minimize infection during COVID-19 pandemic, a visual examination study from India

Abstract:-
World Health Organization confirmed that coronavirus (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. It has the potential to infect anyone and make the patient seriously ill or die at any age.
Gandhi Hospital, Secunderabad is the tertiary care public healthcare provider; it is owned and funded by the Government of Telangana State. Secunderabad is one of the most densely populated places in Hyderabad city, it is the capital city of Telangana state, and is the fourth most populous city in India.

This hospital provided Government-funded free of cost treatment to 84187 Inpatients and 317677 Outpatients from April 2019 to March 2020. It was the uncomfortable phase where the personnel engaged in care of COVID patients were getting infected and were quarantined for their treatment, during this time replacement was arranged from other non-functional departments to assist in creating a team of doctors, nurses, and patient care providers, few additional temporary recruitments were also made during this time to provide the adequate healthcare manpower to combat the pandemic. Almost all the workforce got affected by COVID, either with a mild infection, moderate infection, or with intensive care/ward admission requirements during treatment. About 43.5% additional doctors, 21.7% nurses, and 70.3% patient care providers were additionally supplemented by Government to take care of this nodal center for COVID management. It is sad to part that few healthcare workers lost their lives during delegating their professional duties and acquiring the deadly virus.

The most passionate and professional work of the Virology lab and team of Scientists, Doctors, Technicians, and Sample Collection staff is remarkable and needs appreciation during the control of the COVID pandemic.
There is a potential for future research in the area of healthcare barrier care measures for minimizing the contact infection to staff with the base of scientific evaluation, which is not included in this paper.
