Prof. (Dr) Rabindra Kumar Sarma was a titan in the field of Hospital Administration in India. His  journey from his roots in Dibrugarh to shaping the legacy of the Department of Hospital Administration, AIIMS New Delhi and NEIGHRIMS Shillong—marks the life of a true pioneer.

He was the Founding Member of  Academy of Hospital Administration (AHA) in 1987. Later in  his tenure as President AHA (1996–1998)  he established a professional bedrock for the specialty that continues to support  hospital administrators  even today. However his impact went far beyond institutional building as  he was truly a mentor and father figure to many students and younger colleagues in the speciality and beyond.  His  "affability and sense of fairness" left an indelible mark on all. He was a man who valued human connection as much as clinical excellence in healthcare

Even though he faced health challenges in the last few years he continued to remain in touch with everyone. His  legacy lives on in the specialists he trained and the institutions he commissioned .
